NW REGIONAL ROUNDUP: Lacey sets regional record as Butler rolls

Trevor Lacey, last season’s Mr. Basketball, set a Class 4A regional record by scoring 44 points as top-ranked Butler defeated East Lawrence 84-40 in a Northwest Regional semifinal Thursday.

Lacey, a 6-foot-4 guard who has signed with Kentucky, hit 9-of-13 from the field and sank 5-of-12 3-pointers. He also connected on 11-of-15 free throws.

Lacey’s inside presence was devastating for the Eagles, who were outrebounded 47-31. Lacey collected 13 of those boards. To make it complete, he dealt out four assists.

East Lawrence also shot only eight free throws — making three.

Justin Pride added 13 points for the Rebels (30-2).

The Eagles were led by Cortez Birt, Justin Birgans and Orlando Davis, all of whom scored eight.

4A Girls

Priceville 72, Brooks 61: After trailing the entire game, Priceville tied it at 29-29 when Jordan Crow sank a 3-pointer with 6:52 remaining in the third quarter.

From there, it was a seesaw battle until the Bulldogs took charge in the fourth quarter. But with 3:03 left in the game, Kristen Luking sank a 3 to pull the Lions to within 61-58.

Sydney McClendon led the Bulldogs with 18 points and Presley Darling chipped in 13. Morgan Ponder scored 11.

For Brooks, K’Maya Roach netted 17 and Luking scored 14.

3A Boys

Carbon Hill 55, Clements 41: In a game that was very tight until Carbon Hill went on a 7-0 run that lasted from the closing minutes of the first half until the 7:56 mark of the third quarter. By then, the Bulldogs led 30-21 and there was no looking back.

The Colts closed to 44-41 at the 3:54 point of the fourth quarter, when Devante Williams scored.

But Carbon Hill netted the next 11 points.

Tylor Owens and Kolton Nichols scored 13 and 11, respectively, for the Bulldogs.

Clements was led by the 14 points of Luke Moore. Williams tossed in 13 and Brandon Sanderfer added 10.

3A Girls

Clements 52, Winfield 29: The game was never close, as the Colts jumped out to a 10-2 lead and led 12-4 at the end of the first quarter.

By halftime, Clements led 28-10.

Deneshia Malone led the Colts with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

Carson Gafford and Lacey Hampton added 13 and 11 points, respectively.

For Winfield, Chalise Garrison scored six.
