Weather wrecks game schedules

This week’s winter storm has turned high school sports schedules into slush.
Jefferson County schools did not hold classes Monday through Thursday, and by system policy, athletic events (including practice sessions) are not held on days when classes are off because of weather. The same policy holds true in Blount County.
Jefferson County classes resumed Friday, but Blount’s did not.
Because of the weather, the Jefferson County Wrestling Championship, which was scheduled to begin Friday and end today, was postponed until Monday. The tournament is at Clay-Chalkville, which was the only county school that did not reopen Friday.
Gardendale’s game at Jackson-Olin was not played Friday night, because teams had no practice time this week. The Rockets also missed games with Carver on Tuesday and Tarrant on Thursday.
Hayden’s game at Mortimer Jordan on Friday was also postponed, as was Corner at Haleyville. Fultondale’s game at Holy Family was played Friday as scheduled.
All area games must be made up, which include most of this week’s games. So far, only Corner’s game at Haleyville has been rescheduled, and will be played Thursday.
