Homebuilding company D. R. Horton has bought 5 building permits from the town of Kimberly and 14 lots from Kimberly-based Capstone Partners Inc. in the Doss Ferry subdivision in Kimberly.
Kimberly town records indicate that nothing has been built in the subdivision since 2009. There are also no vacant houses in Doss Ferry, according to the subdivision’s website, although there are homes for sale in the Blue Creek and Hanby Pass sections of the subdivision.
Doss Ferry resident Lindsay Hickman, whose house is located in the Blue Creek section, said she is excited that D. R. Horton is planning to build houses on her street. She has two empty lots next to her home, and D. R. Horton has bought one of them. She said there hasn’t been any building in her neighborhood since she moved to Doss Ferry two years ago.
“Honestly, I think it’s going to make life better for us because they’re going to be finished with our neighborhood, and that will help some people sell their homes,” said Hickman. “But, I am worried that the houses won’t be up to the standards that our houses are at now.”
Capstone Partners Inc. built the subdivision in 2005. The company consists of homebuilders Shannon McCord and Garry Gardner. McCord holds a bachelors of science in marketing and engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and is also a certified Energy Key Builder.
D.R. Horton is the largest homebuilder in the United States. Its headquarters is located in Fort Worth, Texas.
