Many people showed up at the Gardendale Civic Center on Tuesday to fulfill their new year’s resolutions to get in shape. Local police stations said New Year’s Eve was mostly quiet; Gardendale Police Chief Mike Walker and Warrior Police Chief Ray Horn said it was much safer than their days of working with the Birmingham Police Departments, where they would frequently have to avoid bullets from celebratory gunfire raining from the sky.
