No charges filed in shooting

A Hayden woman will not be charged with a crime after allegedly shooting her ex-husband in what she says is self-defense, according to published reports.

According to the reports, the Blount County Sheriff’s Office is not planning to press charges against Elsie Thomas, who says she shot her ex-husband, Matt Allen, with a small shotgun after he brandished a handgun.

Blount County Sheriff Loyd Arrington has publicly stated that he believes Thomas was acting in self-defense.

The incident happened on Sunday in the trailer Thomas shared with Allen.

Funeral services for Allen will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Corner. Visitation is today from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office could not be reached for comment as of press deadline on Tuesday.
