Seven arrested in Pinson meth bust

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested seven people in connection to a methamphetamine lab near Pinson, including one with an outstanding warrant from the Gardendale Police Department.

According to a report from the sheriff’s office, members of the sheriff’s office Street Crime Unit (SCU) was investigating the whereabouts of Charles Rickey Coley, who was believed to be staying at a residence in the 4600 block of Elfreth Johnson Road near Pinson. After arriving at the address and speaking to Coley, deputies reportedly noticed drug paraphernalia and components for manufacturing meth.

The report states that deputies began searching the residence after Coley consented to allow them.

“During the search they discovered an active methamphetamine cook as well as drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine,” said Deputy Chief Jim Roberson.

While the sheriff’s office’s Narcotics Unit and a cleanup crew from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) worked, a vehicle pulled into the driveway of the residence. Investigators reportedly found methamphetamine in the possession of the driver, Brandon Swack. The passenger of the vehicle, Christina Acton, had an outstanding traffic warrant in Gardendale.

Those arrested were:

• Charles Rickey Coley, 57, on charges of manufacturing a controlled substance, $50,000 bond

• David Dewayne Plunkett, 33, on charges of manufacturing a controlled substance, $50,000 bond

• Daniel Wayne Gibbs, 24, on charges of manufacturing a controlled substance, $50,000 bond

• Gerald Wayne Johnson, Jr., 42, on charges of manufacturing a controlled substance, $50,000 bond

• Racheal Susan Gantt, 25, on four charges of failing to appear in court, no bond

• Brandon Swack on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, $15,000 bond

• Christina Acton on charges of failing to appear in court for a traffic violation, $1,000 bond
