Jefferson D. Thomas (J.D)

Jefferson D. Thomas (J.D), 86, of Warrior, passed away peacefully Dec. 10, 2010 surrounded by family and friends.

Mr. Thomas was born Dec. 13, 1924 in Jefferson County, the son of the late Jefferson Dee and Ollie Elizabeth Peak Thomas. He was the oldest son of 10 siblings.  On July 3, 1948 he was married to Annie Mae Wilkinson (Thomas) who survives.

Mr. Thomas retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service. He was a past president and continued as an active member of the Fleet 89 NAS Atlanta Reunion Group. After his retirement from the U.S. Navy he was employed as Hatchery Manager for Tyson Foods, Empire. He retired from Tyson Foods in 1991.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Joan (Barry) Bennett; daughter Judy Thomas; granddaughter, Amy (John) Prisoc; grandson, Michael William Thomas McEwan and great-grandson John Tyler Prisoc all of Warrior.

Mr. Thomas is also survived by his sisters; Margaret (Dick) Russell, Maxine (Bobby) Fikes, Shelby (Billy) Nale and Gail (Bobby) Hill, and brothers; Porter (Jean) Thomas, John Thomas and Rick (Brenda) Thomas.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his son, David Byron Thomas, and his brothers Otis Thomas and Odis Thomas.

A special thank you is extended to two ladies that cared for him lovingly in his last few months.  Thank you Teresa and Kim.

Visitation was held at Messmer-Goodwin Funeral home, Warrior, Sunday, Dec. 12. Service were held at Messmer-Goodwin funeral home, Warrior, on Monday, Dec. 13, 2010 at 1 p.m. Mr. Thomas was laid to rest at Mt. Olive Cemetery.
