Jim ‘N Nicks Invitational Wrestling: Hewitt-Trussville wins handily, Rockets fourth

- Hayden wrestler Tyler Newton (right) attempts to turn his opponent, Marcus Elkins of Hewitt-Trussville, in the 160-pound championship match of the Jim ‘N Nicks Invisitational Saturday at Gardendale. The bout, which Newton won, was voted the best of the tournament.
Hewitt-Trussville ran away with the team championship in the Jim ‘N Nicks Wrestling Invitational, the first edition of the annual tournament to be held at the new Gardendale High School.
Hewitt scored 218.5 points, 41 points ahead of runner up Oak Mountain. Pinson Valley was third, only a point and a half out of second place. Gardendale placed fourth.
Hayden’s Tyler Newton was named the most outsatnding wrestler of the heavy classes, and his 160-pound final match with Marcus Elkins of Hewitt-Trussville was chosen as the best match of the meet.
