Warrior Day this Saturday

Warrior Day will kick off on Saturday with the annual parade, which will include the Mortimer Jordan High School band, a helicopter and motorcycles from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and others.
The grand marshalls this year is the Kulungian family, whose daughter, Lilly Belle, was born with Malignant Infantile Osteopetrosis, a disease which affects bone marrow production. Lilly was born weighing only three-and-a-half pounds and was expected to die from the disease. After several long and tedious bone marrow transplants, Lilly, now almost three years old, currently seems to be in good health, although her treatments have made her almost completely blind.
People attending Warrior Day can register to be put on a list for Bone Marrow donations through an organization called “Love for Lilly Belle.” Medical personnel will only swab the inside of potential donors’ cheeks on Saturday; donors will be contacted later about performing the actual donation.
All parade participants will begin lining up at Warrior Elementary School at 7:45 a.m. and begin marching at 9 a.m.
Many of the children’s activities are free, including inflatable moonbounces, a slide provided by Dr. Susan Wells and a race car ride provided by Cars for Less.
There will also be performances by Mom and Pop’s Karaoke, the Warrior-based A Time to Dance, Beverly’s Dance Studio and others.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will sned a helicopter as well as several other vehicles for the parade.
There will also be numerous food and arts and crafts vendors.
Warrior Day will begin with the parade and end at 3 p.m.
