Kimberly police say there have been three major copper thefts the town limits within a month’s time.
Two of the thefts were from the construction site of the new Mortimer Jordan High School campus at 1920 Bone Dry Road.
Kimberly Police Sgt. Steven Bailey said Kimberly police are working with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies, including one police department in north Alabama.
Two 310-foot rolls of copper wire valued at $50,000 was stolen from the construction site of the new campus at the end of August, according to police reports. The two spools of wire had a combined weight of nearly 1,000 pounds.
Police received another report on Sept. 20 for first degree theft of property and third degree burglary at the campus construction site. The report states that various tools and different types of wire, including copper, were stolen. The stolen goods were valued at $12,811.
Another Kimberly address reported having 5,000 feet of copper wire, valued at $15,000, stolen on Sept. 8. Bailey said police are looking at several different possible suspects, and that all three cases are currently under investigation.
