Sports roundup: Rockets dominate Carver

Haley Hardman had 11 kills and two blocks, and Bekah Myers served nine aces as Gardendale finished off a perfect 6-0 Class 6A Area 11 record with a 25-12, 25-15, 25-0 rout of Carver Thursday.

Maegan Belcher had eight kills, Presley Crenshaw served six aces, and Brooklyn McKinney had 10 assists, as the entire Rocket lineup saw significant playing time.
Gardendale will host the Area 11 tournament on October 12. The Rockets will also host the Jefferson County Volleyball Championship on Saturday, October 9. They finish off their regular season with a match at Hewitt-Trussville on Tuesday.
MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL
Eighth grade — Hueytown 20, Bragg 14: Hueytown quarterback Michael Simpson scored the winning touchdown on a 37-yard run late in the fourth quarter for the unbeaten Panthers. He also scored the game’s first touchdown when he ran the opening kickoff all the way back.
Juan Jackson scored both touchdowns for the Rockets (3-2) in the first half.
Seventh grade — Bragg 8, Hueytown 6: Brent Harris scored on a 54-yard run, and Blake Zumbado’s pass to Harper Haygood for the two-point conversion was the difference for the Rockets (2-3).

BASS FISHING
Tharp, Swindle in the hunt in Texas: Gardendale pro bass angler Randal Tharp is tied for 18th place, and Warrior fisherman Gerald Swindle is tied for 29th out of 50 after the first day of the Toyota Texas Bass Classic on Lake Conroe.
Tharp caught five fish weighing 14 pounds even, while Swindle’s five weighed in at 11 pounds, 12 ounces.
Kelly Jordon of Mineola, Texas led the field with 261/2 pounds, 71/4 pounds more than second place.
GOLF
Kreidler gets ace: Ann Kreidler hit a hole-in-one on the 90-yard 18th hole at Green Briar Golf Course on Tuesday. Her 6-iron shot was witnessed by Pete Kreidler.
