Mortimer Jordan 54, Curry 18: Dobbs scores four TDs as Devils romp

Mortimer Jordan picked their fourth win of the season Friday night, blowing out Curry 54-18 in a Class 5A region matchup.

It was Curry’s homecoming, but the Blue Devils definietly made it one for the hosts to forget.
“We’re happy with the win,” said Jordan head Coach Greg Watts. “We have so much more room for improvement. I am happy with the way our kids played. Taylor Eaves did a great job at center tonight. He was our offensive player of the game.
“Our defensive player of the game, Josh Pate, had a great game. A win is a win.”
A delay to start the game didn’t bother Mortimer Jordan. On the second play of the game Cody Rouse intercepted a pass giving the Blue Devils great field position.
Five plays later Marquis Dobbs put the first points on the board when he ran it in from eight yards out.
The Blue Devils built onto the score later in the first quarter. After a big 38-yard reception by Rod Washington set Mortimer Jordan up inside the 5-yard line, it only took two plays for Marquis Dobbs to score his second touchdown this time from 2 yards out. The score was now 14-0 Blue Devils.

Later in the quarter Mortimer Jordan made the score 21-0 when Orion Recke found a wide open Washington in the end zone. The play covered 23 yards and completed a five play, 33-yard drive.
Mortimer Jordan put up one more score right before halftime. With less than five minutes to play in the half Marquis Dobbs scored his third touchdown of the game when he ran it in from four yards out. This score gave Mortimer Jordan the lead at the half 28-0.
The Blue Devils weren’t done in the second half. Late in the third quarter Tyler Fortenbury sacked Curry’s Clark White causing him to fumble and Fortenbury to recover at the Yellow Jackets 6 yard line. Three plays later Orion Recke connected with Rodrick Washington once again. The pass covered 7 yards and gave Jordan a commanding 34-0 lead.
Curry’s Nathan Humphries was able to make the score closer late in the third. Humphries ran for two touchdowns of 50 yards and 16 yards to help make the score 34-12 in the Blue Devils advantage. However in the fourth quarter Mortimer Jordan was able to put the game away for good. Marquis Dobbs ran in his fourth touchdown of the game at the start of the quarter. The run covered 4 yards and completed a five play 50 yard drive. After a two point conversion Mortimer Jordan led 42-12.
Curry answered back on the ensuing possession. Clark White threw a touchdown pass to Nathan Humphries that covered 39 yards and made the score 42-18.
With less than four minutes to go in the game, Jordan’s Justin Mack made the score 48-18 when he ran it in from three yards out.
Mortimer Jordan added one more score with just 38 seconds to go in the game when James Day ran it in from 12 yards out to help make the final score 54-18.
