The suspects gained access inside the bank by apparently making a hole large enough to crawl through the bank’s brick wall. The hole is under the walk-up ATM at the back of the building. Gardendale Police Chief Mike Walker said police received a call that an alarm had been activated at the bank at about 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. He said police arrived at the bank in about two minutes, but the suspects were already gone.

Walker said burglaries at banks are rare. Police suspect at least two individuals were involved. Police said it didn’t appear that the burglars had a chance to steal anything, at least not any cash. The police department is asking anyone with information about the burglary to contact the police station by calling 631-8787.
