“Both teams fought extremely hard. It is a shame someone had to lose,” said Corner head coach Brent Smith. “It came down to a field goal. Someone had to win the game, and luckily we had the ball last.”
The first score of the game came midway in the second quarter, after a bad punt by Midfield gave Corner the ball in good field position. It took the Yellow Jackets nine plays to score, as Jordan Shipp ran for a touchdown from one yard out.
Midfield answered on the last play of the first half, when Andrew Gilmore threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Moss. The Patriots missed the point after, so Corner led at halftime 7-6.
Midfield took the lead late in the third quarter, as Martez Gilmore ran it in from one yard out to give the Patriots a 12-7 advantage. The two-point conversation was unsuccessful, as Corner’s Jordan Shipp held up Martez Gilmore just two feet from the goal line.
In the fourth quarter the Corner offense was able to get back into the game. After 46-yard pass completion by Shipp to Jason Vaughn set Corner up inside the Midfield 5, it looked as if the Yellow Jackets might score. But the offense went backwards and they had to settle for a 37-yard field goal by Elliott to make the score 12-10.
After a long drive, Corner’s defense forced Midfield to punt. With little more than three minutes left to go in the game, the Yellow Jackets drove down to the Midfield 5-yard line.

With only 16 seconds to play in game Corner lined up for a 22-yard field goal, which Elliott kicked through the uprights. However, Midfield’s coaching staff called a timeout before the ball was snapped and the play didn’t count.
Elliott didn’t let this bother him at all. On the retry he again was true to give Corner the lead 13-12 with ten seconds left.
On the ensuing kickoff Midfield’s Quinterius Johnson looked as if he was going to return it all the way back for a score. However, Christian Holliday prevented him from scoring with a great open field tackle. Then with two tenths of a second to go, Andrew Gilmore threw a bomb to the corner of the end zone which fell incomplete.
