Calling all artists: Designs wanted for T-shirt logo

Magnolia Festival organizers are calling all artists to help design the logo for next year’s T-shirt.

For the second year, there will be a logo contest, with the winner having his or her design on official festival T-shirts. The shirts will be given to all festival volunteers and will be sold at the festival for $10 each.

The logo winner gets a $100 savings bond sponsored by Aliant Bank, along with two free T-shirts and his or her photo in the North Jefferson News.

Last year’s contest was for high-school students only. The winner was Robin Tyler, who was a junior at Mortimer Jordan High School.

This year, there is no age limit and the contest is open to anyone who lives in Fultondale, Gardendale, Kimberly, Morris, Mt. Olive, Corner or Hayden.

“I think there are a lot of artists out there that might be able to exhibit their talents and get recognized for it in the whole north Jefferson County area,” said festival organizer Kathleen Phillips.

The prominent theme of all logos must be the 10th annual Gardendale Magnolia Festival, which will be held April 15-16, 2011.

Phillips suggests artists incorporate the Alabama Tourism Department’s yearly theme, which will be the Year of Music. She said the logo should also represent the major elements of the festival, including the live entertainment, food, pooch parade, classic car show, arts and crafts show, carnival, pageant and business expo.

Phillips suggests individuals visit the festival website to learn more about the event and to get ideas for a logo.

Logos be line drawings or can have up to three colors. They can be 8 inches by 8 inches or smaller.

Deadline for entries is Nov. 30. All entries should be mailed to Kathleen Phillips at 5237 Short Leaf Lane, Gardendale, Ala., 35071.

The winner will be announced in January.
