ROCKET CITY 28, WARRIORS 0—Ellison: ‘Same old story,’ as turnovers turn the tide

The league-leading Rocket City Titans made quick work of the Alabama Warriors Saturday, scoring a 28-0 shutout in Premier South Football League action.

“It’s the same old story every week,” said player-coach Lee Ellison. “We kill ourselves.”

The Titans only scored two of their four touchdowns on offense. They first scored when Warrior quarterback Marcus Hollis fumbled the ball, which a Rocket City defensive end recovered and rambled 30 yards for a touchdown.

Running back Danny Moon went in on a third and goal from the 2-yard line, after they blocked a Warrior punt in the second quarter.

The Titans also scored on the opening kickoff of the second half, which they returned 74 yards.

The victory gives the 7-1 Titans a clear path to the top seed in the PSFL playoffs. They will clinch the No. 1 seed if they defeat the Central Alabama Devil Dawgs this Saturday night at Corner, or if they lose to the Dawgs by fewer than 18 points.

Central Alabama 24, South Alabama 0 (forfeit): The Devil Dawgs locked up at least the sixth seed in the post-season simply by staying at home.

The South Alabama Seminoles notified the PSFL office that their franchise was folding, and that they would not play the remaining games on their schedule.

The 24-0 score, as specified by league rules, keeps the Dawgs in good shape in the wild-card chase with 60 points allowed.

The PSFL post-season is a nine-team bracket, with the top four seeds going to division winners, followed by five wild cards based on overall records, with ties broken by points allowed.

Warriors’ next opponent forfeits: This Saturday’s game against the East Ascension Bulldogs of Gonzalez, Louisiana has been forfeited. The Bulldogs notified the league they would cease operations after a loss last Saturday.
