A chase on Tuesday night involving Gardendale, Fultondale, Vestavia Hills, Homewood and other police departments and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office ended on the 700 block of Main Street in Gardendale.

Jessica Anderson, 21, of Westover, is being charged with attempted murder, drug possession, resisting arrest and two counts of reckless endangerment, according to Jefferson County records.

According to an incident report by Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Randy Christian, the Sheriff’s Office sought attempted murder charges after Anderson tried to hit a deputy’s vehicle head-on on Highway 79.

“Some of our officers assisted at the end of the chase, but otherwise we weren’t very involved,” said Gardendale Police Chief Mike Walker. “We set up spike strips, but nobody drove over them. We suspect she was avoiding the route.”

Although Gardendale police weren’t involved in Anderson’s arrest, Walker said his department issued her several citations for offenses such as reckless driving and running stop signs.
