The Alabama Warriors’s defense likes to call itself the “Hit Squad.” And hit they did on Saturday with five interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown by Mike Woods as the Warriors shut out the Georgia Knights 26-0 in a pre-season game.
Running backs D.J. Burroughs and Josh Stillings both ran for touchdowns in the first half, and quarterback Dale Hayes connected with wide receiver Jafari Pegues for a 20-yard scoring pass in the second half.
Jeff Hendrix, Micheal Holt, Rod Hall and Jevon Grant had picks, with Grant returning his for 44 yards.
The Warrior defense allowed only 54 yards total offense by the Knights.
Alabama opens Premier South Football League play on Saturday as they host their arch-rivals, the Central Alabama Devil Dawgs. Kick off is at 4 p.m. at the old Warrior High School.
