Technology is taking over world as we know it

We live in a world of technology. It seems that computers have infiltrated every aspect of our lives. You can’t even go for a walk at a park without someone talking on their phone or surfing the web at a park bench.

Technology isn’t a bad thing. It makes communication much easier, but some feel that it could be the downfall of our society.

It’s nothing new for a husband or wife to come home from a long day of work and jump on the Internet, only to chat and shop the evening away. But at what expense? Are we neglecting our spouses? Are we neglecting our children? Who pays for the added time out of the day that you spend in cyberspace?

Technology isn’t limited to just the home. While getting out of the car at church Sunday, I noticed that my husband didn’t have his Bible. Before saying anything I remembered that he uses his phone as his Bible. That’s right, he has an application on his phone that has the entire Bible downloaded.

So, no matter what version or scripture, he can get to it faster than I can in my regular Bible.

That’s when it hit me, technology is in every part of our lives.

My cousin is getting married this weekend and on her invitations, it gives you the option to RSVP online. These are things that I thought would be light years away.

Who would have imagined 20 years ago that we would have full computers in our phones … that don’t have to be plugged into a wall. The changes in technology are mind boggling. Another thing that worries me is the fact that I’m not good at keeping up with it. People get new phones like they change their socks. They have better keyboards, hold more music and have faster Internet access. My phone doesn’t even have a keyboard with letters. And Internet access has never entered my mind as an option for a telephone.

Do you spend more time talking to people over the phone than you spend with the people who are physically with you? It’s not only rude, but what could this be doing to your relationship with these people? There is no axe to grind here, just something to make you think.

Since technology has seeped into every pore of society, we might as well embrace it to some extent, but don’t let it take over your life.

Remember that you have real people who want to be in contact with you every day, and not necessarily by email.
