Blankenship, manager of the Morris Senior Center, has responded to the needs of the Mt. Olive Senior Center by putting up some cash and by challenging others to do the same.

Last week, the North Jefferson News printed an article stating that the Mt. Olive Senior Center needs help with maintenance.

Blankenship is donating $25 to the Mt. Olive center.

“I challenge everybody who went to school there and everybody in the community to do the same,” Blankenship said. The Mt. Olive Senior Center site was formerly a school.

According to Blankenship, Jefferson County provides Mt. Olive Senior Center $300 a year for paper products and cleaning supplies.

The community center board and volunteers raise the rest.

Other senior centers in the area are in municipalities, which help the centers with operating expenses.

The Mt. Olive center’s bills include, on average:

• $35 a month for water

• $60 a month for phone

• $160 a year for garbage pickup

• $75-$100 a month for paper products and cleaning supplies

• $932 a year for insurance.
