Softball Roundup: Jordan’s bats answer late wake-up call

It took a little while, but Mortimer Jordan’s bats finally came alive in the fifth inning, as they put up nine runs to close out an 11-1 five-inning win over Homewood on Thursday.
Shelby McGraw and Danae Hays hit RBI doubles in the inning, in a game where coach Laura Rickman started all of her seniors as part of Senior Night.
Heather Norris scored the Patriots’ only run on a solo homer, her first ever.
Heather Parker got the win; the home run was the only hit she allowed.
• Tabernacle Christian 12, Victory Christian-Columbus 2 (5 innings): Katie Parr struck out nine Eagles, and was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI as the Torches cruised Tuesday.
• Hayden ninth at Gulf Coast Classic II: The Wildcats edged Hatton, ranked second in Class 2A, by a 2-1 score in the first round of bracket play, then fell 8-1 to Mary Montgomery of Mobile in the round of 16.
In pool play, Hayden (24-13-1) beat Gulf Shores 6-1, and tied Fairview 5-5 on Wednesday. Tuesday play included a win over Wilson.
