The incident began when a homeowner on Longwood Drive heard a noise in his house. Upon investigating, he encountered a man in his home, according to Gardendale Police Chief Mike Walker.

The suspect fled, followed by a second suspect. The two ran to a vehicle parked in the driveway of the house next door.

“The suspects were unable to flee in the vehicle as (they) had apparently lost their car key,” Walker said. “The suspects then ran into the woods behind the residences.”

Gardendale Police Department officers arrived and secured the house and the suspects’ vehicle. The department’s K-9 team also searched the area.

One suspect was captured at 7:20 a.m. Thursday in Fultondale. The second suspect was captured hours later.

The department is unable to release any other details pending formal charges by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. Additional information will be available after the department obtains warrants, according to Walker.

Walker said there were no injuries to law enforcement personnel, suspects or citizens during the incident.
