North Jefferson residents qualify for elections

With Friday as the deadline for candidates to qualify for state and county political races, there are some names on the lists familiar to north Jefferson County.

Primaries will be held June 1 for statewide offices such as governor, attorney general and the Alabama Legislature, as well as positions for the Jefferson County Commission and Jefferson County sheriff.

Some local candidates who qualified are incumbent Rep. Allen Treadaway, R-51st, who lives in Morris. Treadaway has no opponent.

Another incumbent qualifying for the legislature is Sen. Scott Beason, R-17th, who lives in Gardendale. Running against Beason is Republican Jim Murphree and Democrat T.E. “Tommy” Hudson.

A third local candidate running for office is Democrat Willie Hill, who is running for Jefferson County sheriff. Hill lives in Morris.

Also running for sheriff are Democrats Wallace Anger, Ron Blankenship and Republicans Jim Woodward and incumbent Mike Hale.

To hear candidates running for Jefferson County Commission District Four answer questions about county finances and the occupational tax, attend a forum Thursday, 7-9 p.m., at the Gardendale Civic Center.
