- Corner’s Madison McCormack pitched a no-hitter, facing just 16 Oak Grover batters in an 11-0 shutout Thursday.
Corner freshman pitcher Madison McCormack made short work of her Oak Grove opposition, as she threw a five-inning no-hitter to win 11-0 in a Class 4A area game on Thursday.
McCormack only had one runner reach base, that on an error, and allowed only two balls to make it past the infield in her second start.
Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets’ batting order made mincemeat of Oak Grove pitching, as every batter but one scored at least one run.
Shortstop Preslie Cruce was 3-for-3 with a lead-off double and two RBIs; she also reached base on an error.
Taylor Sloan was 2-for-3 with a double that brought in Cruce. She then scored on a double by Heather Anderson.
The win for Corner (16-8, 2-0 area) comes on the heels of a 9-8 win over Pisgah, the top-ranked team in Class 3A, in the first game of a tri-series on Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets lost 1-0 to Hueytown, ranked fifth in Class 6A.
