Baseball: Mortimer Jordan 11-17, Erwin 1-6

Designated hitter Austin Nabers heads for third base, with third baseman Jesse Stanley close behind, as Mortimer Jordan scored 10 runs in the first inning of the second game of Monday’s doubleheader.

It’s a pretty ugly night when the most entertaining thing at the ball game is the antics of the losing coach.

But Erwin was simply no match for Mortimer Jordan on Monday night, as the Devils took a pair of five-inning wins in an Area 11 doubleheader.

Jordan struck early in both games, posting eight runs in the first inning of the opener, and 10 runs in the first of the nightcap.

Taylor Williams was 3-for-4 in the first game with a double and three RBIs.

Starter Austin Nabors went three innings and struck out five Eagles.

Nabors, as designated hitter, was the big bat in the nightcap, going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Mason Davis reached base four times and scored three on a walk, an error and two hit-by-pitches.

Mortimer Jordan 9, Chelsea 8: On Saturday at McAdory, the Devils scored six runs to take the lead in the top of the seventh, then hung on for dear life as a Chelsea rally came up one run short.

Nabors was 3-for-3 with an RBI. C.T. Wood drove home three runs on a single and a double.

Ty Miller got the win in relief, and Skylar Myrick got the last out for the save.

McAdory 7, Mortimer Jordan 3: In the first game of the tri-series, the Devils committed five errors as the Yellow Jackets scored four in the third inning to take command.

Myrick was 2-for-4 to lead Jordan batting. Davis brought Myrick in on a sacrifice fly.
