The City of Morris is considering changing the traffic pattern around City Hall.
On Tuesday, the Morris City Council discussed turning Stouts Road into a one-way street from Reno Drive to Glenwood Road.
That portion of the road is only 19 feet, which is a lane and a half.
“This will make a safer roadway and speeding complaints won’t be as heavy,” said Morris Police Chief Brian Cochran.” “It will also keep people from cutting through the City Hall parking lot like they’re not supposed to.”
The council tabled the motion for further discussion.
In other business, the council:
• heard that the city will soon remove the cover from the water fountain in the city park. Classic Gardens will be maintaining the park
• announced that work will soon begin on several potholes throughout the area, as well as general street improvements
• ordered a new Generac generator for use in case of power outage. The council approved spending up to $15,000 on the generator
• announced there is a job opening with the Morris Street Department
• heard from two political candidates: Joe Knight, who is running for Jefferson County Commissioner, and Amber Ladner, who is running for Circuit Judge, Place 24, Criminal Division
The Morris City Council meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m.
