Person you should know: Kris Marshall

Kris Marshall of Gardendale is interim executive director of the Greater Gardendale Chamber of Commerce. She sat down recently to explain what she loves about her job and what she enjoys outside of her work.

• How long have you been interim executive director?

Since January. But I worked as a chamber volunteer for a year before that, serving as an ambassador, working at the Magnolia Fest and the Christmas parade, and helping in the office.

• What do you like about the job?

I love being outside in the community meeting people.

• Have you found that there are any misconceptions about the chamber?

Mainly that people feel the chamber has not been here to serve them. The chamber was established in 1987 for the purpose of helping businesses and the community. What I’ve tried to get out there is, ‘How may we serve you?’ The new chamber board members are very excited about that too.
