A lot of people are out of work, but the U.S. Census Bureau has job opportunities available. A census taker is an official employee of the census bureau who collects information from residents in their neighborhood that have not sent back the 2010 census form. How hard could that be? If you are interested, Virginia will be at Fultondale City Hall on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10 a.m. for the next two weeks to take applications. When you fill out your application, you must also take a 30-minute test. If you need extra money to pay your bills, come fill out an application. You can call 307-5730 for other testing sites.

• The Fultondale City Council will meet March 8 and March 22 at 11:30 a.m. If you are interested in the council meetings come on out and join us.

• Daylight Savings Time begins March 14. Also, March 15-19 is spring break for students at Jefferson County schools. Spring begins on March 20.

• We are having continuous complaints of dogs running loose and people not cleaning up their yards. Do your part and help keep your community clean and neat. Be proud of your yard and where you live.

• I, along with Jessica, Amy and Eli, would like to send an early special happy 23rd birthday wish to my son Derek Barnes on March 8. I am so very proud of the young man he has become. His father would be proud, too. I love him very much and hope he has a wonderful birthday and many, many more

• Special birthday wishes go to Blanche Lowery on March 8. Blanche is the wife of Mayor Jim Lowery, and she is a wonderful person. We hope she has a great birthday. Also celebrating a birthday on March 8 is Phillip Mangina of the Fultondale Police Department. We hope he has great birthday.

• Happy birthday wishes go to a good friend and co-worker, Mr. Charles Lucas, on March 12. We hope he has a great birthday and many, many more.

• I want to send special happy 61st birthday wish to Mr. Jerry Goodwin on Friday, Feb. 26. Jerry is the pride and joy of Mrs. Polly Goodwin and she is so proud of him. We hope he has a great birthday.
