Bill Lennox, 49, of Gardendale is the senior building maintenance worker at the Gardendale Civic Center. He has been with the City of Gardendale for 22 years.

• What exactly is your job here?
There is such a variety of things I do. I tell people, if it’s broke, I fix it. I work with computers, IT, multimedia and I set up for meetings. I know more about this building than anybody else. I saw it going up, from when the civic center was across the street.
• What do you enjoy about your work?
It really boils down to making sure the people who use this facility are happy. The goal is to be sure the presenter is comfortable and not having to worry about nuances and the details.
• I see a motorcycle helmet behind you – do you ride?
Yes, I sold my Honda Passport in 2007 and bought a motorcycle. It saves a It’s fun. You kind of get into that riding culture that’s a unique part of American History.

• Tell me about your family.
My wife Carol and I got married in 1986. She’s a stay-at-home mom. She home-schools our daughter, Emily, who is 6 and a half.
• What do you enjoy doing for fun?
I enjoy my time with my daughter. I like to do yard work and work around the house. I dabble in photography, I like to hike. I’m an amateur ham radio operator. Oh, and we love to travel.
• Who do you talk to on the radio?
I like talking around the world or locally. I have friends in Europe, the Caribbean and Canada, and in Alabama.
• What do you talk about?
We talk about hobbies and what kind of radio equipment we use. Veterans tell their war stories. If you get somebody talking about themself, the sky’s the limit.
• You mentioned travel: Tell me about that.
We do some missionary work. This summer we went to the Dominican Republic to support a missionary there.
