Boys Basketball: Early run speeds Wildcats past Corner

The action was fast, and the coaches were furious.
But Fultondale was able to hold on after a game-opening 17-2 run to defeat Corner 64-49 in Tuesday boys’ basketball action.
The Wildcats’ speed forced the Yellow Jackets into a horrid night from the field, hitting just 21 shots on an astounding 81 attempts (25 percent), most of which were in the paint.
“We finished,” said Cats coach Richie Busby. “That’s the first time all season we’ve stepped up to hold on to a lead.”
Deundrea Marshall paced the Wildcats with 17 points. Dre Talley had 16, and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line. Christian McCollough added 15 points.
Jake Eiland led Corner with 17 points, and Seth Hand scored 13.
In other games:
Mountain Brook 66, Gardendale 46: The Spartans too control in the second quarter Tuesday night at Bragg Middle School, thanks to a 24-point effort from Carter Pritchard that included six 3-point baskets.
Zack Snow led the Rockets with 15 points, and Jacob Allen added seven.
Mountain Brook had a 12-4 advantage on offensive rebounds over Gardendale, which remains winless in area play.
Mortimer Jordan 72, Hayden 38: The Blue Devils were in command from the outset, as all 10 players scored Monday.
Taylor Williams and Tyler Pelkey each came off the bench to score 13 points with three 3-pointers to lead Jordan. Overall, the Devils shot 47 percent from behind the arc.
Daniel Swope also scored 12 points.
Skylar Powell paced the winless Wildcats with 16 points.
Tabernacle Christian 48, Jubilee Christian (Gainesville, Ga.) 35: Fred Goodgame was a menace from outside, going 6-for-8 from behind the 3-point line as the Torches rolled Saturday.
Goodgame finished with 23 points. Wes Felix hit three treys and totaled 11 points.
Matt Dyer grabbed four offensive rebounds for Tabernacle. “That gave us extra possessions. He is a gritty, never-say-die kind that coach’s cannot get enough of,” said coach David Corbett.
