Gardendale
Council rezones property
The Gardendale City Council rezoned part of 701 Woods Road Monday night from I-1 (light industrial) to INST-1 (institutional district). The rezoning clears the way for North Gardendale Church of Christ to build its new church on the property. In other business, the council:
• authorized an exclusive vending agreement with the Birmingham Coca-Cola Bottling Company to provide concessions at city facilities and ballparks. As part of the agreement, Coca-Cola will provide an annual payment of $10,000 for five years.
• passed a resolution voicing support for the move of Bryce Hospital from Tuscaloosa to the former location of Physicians Medical Center-Carraway in north Birmingham.
Jefferson County
Arrest made in sign thefts
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office recently made an arrest in the case of stolen campaign signs. Thomas Fred Isbell, 58, of Pinson, was arrested on Dec. 1 for third-degree theft of property, according to Lt. Randy Christian of the sheriff’s office. In September, two large political signs belonging to Jefferson County Commission candidate Wayne Taylor were reported stolen from the 1000 block of Chalkville School Road. Isbell was released from jail on $3,000 bond.
