Police and emergency officials responded at 3:30 p.m. to the report of a 14-year-old female juvenile who had fallen out of a pickup truck on Interstate 65 South between Fieldstown and Walker Chapel roads. A LifeSaver helicopter has transported the victim to UAB Hospital. Interstate 65 South is expected to reopen soon.

Lt. Chuck Denham of the Gardendale Police Department said the girl was part of a group of Hispanic individuals headed for Mexico. Denham said they did not know if the girl jumped from the truck bed or was pushed out. She was able to talk with police after the incident. The extent of her injuries are not known.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
