The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging all families to put safety first when trick-or-treating this evening, according to a press release.
While stressing the importance of using reflective costumes and flashlights, the sheriff’s office also wants parents to be aware of any sex offenders who may live in areas where children will go in search of candy.
Parents can find out where sex offenders live by visiting www.jeffcosheriff.net and click on “Sex Offenders” on the home page. This will lead to an area where an address can be entered and any convicted sex offender within a mile of that address will show up on the screen.
“We hope everyone will take advantage of this extra safety measure and also want to remind those traveling to drive slowly and watch out for the little ghost and goblins that are expected to be out and about,” the release said.
