Highway 160 meeting to be held Monday


The Highway 160 Promise group will host a meeting on Monday at 7 p.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church, located at 801 Highway 160, in Warrior. The meeting will allow residents to address any concerns about the safety of Highway 160 and get the latest information on what’s being done to improve the road. Tony Harris, communications director for the Alabama Department of Transportation, is scheduled to be at the meeting to answer questions.



Jefferson County

Judge orders destruction of confiscated machines


Jefferson County Judge Scott Vowell has ordered the destruction of 186 gambling machines that were discovered in Kimberly on May 22, 2008. Sgt. Bill Isbell, a Kimberly Police investigator, discovered the illegal machines last year after receiving permission to enter the building. The machines, parts and other equipment were valued at $1 million. Vowell determined that the machines were being assembled for use in Walker County bingo halls.
