TUSCALOOSA — Fultondale secured home-field advantage for the first round of the playoffs, thanks to a 13-yard touchdown run by C.J. Mixon, as the Wildcats won 6-3 at American Christian Friday night.

Mixon’s scoring run, the only touchdown of the night, came with 9:24 left in the first half. The extra point kick failed.

The only points for ACA came on a 20-yard field goal by Blake Brenton in the first period.

Mixon had 106 yards on 20 carries, with Chris Barber gaining 67 yards on 15 carries.

The Wildcats (7-1, 5-1 region) had 182 yards, all on the ground with only one pass attempt. ACA had 220 yards total, with 66 yards coming on a Daniel O’Quinn run in the first quarter to set up the field goal.

Cortez Edison led the Cats with 10 tackles, Christian McCollough added eight with two sacks, and Sherman Owens also had eight.

Fultondale was flagged only once for five yards.

The win sets up a showdown with top-ranked Pickens County on Friday to decide the regional title.
