Organizers are taking the next step to create a new library in Warrior, and they need the community’s help.

There will be a book sale Oct. 30-31 at the former Alabama National Guard armory on Cane Creek Road, which is the future site of the Regional Library at Warrior.

The North Jefferson-Blount Regional Library Foundation has been working for many months on grants and funding to turn the old armory into a state-of-the-art library.

The current library is overcrowded, with no space for a computer lab, meeting rooms or other amenities.

Head librarian Faye Pugh said there would not even be room for all of the library’s books if they were all checked in.

Members of the library foundation need donations of hardbacks and paperbacks for the book sale.

Books can be dropped off at the current library at 10 1st St. or at the armory on Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., or Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To make other arrangements, call Anne Jolly at 590-4909.

Besides selling reading material, there will also be a bake sale. The library foundation is requesting donations of baked goods. To donate, call Linda Taylor at 647-3506.

In addition, the Warrior Lions Club will sell hot dogs and drinks on Oct. 31.

“The library is basically shovel-ready,” said Jolly, who is president of the North Jefferson-Blount Regional Library Foundation. “We’re ready to kick it off. Now all we need is money.”

The sale will be Oct. 30 from noon to 4 p.m. and Oct. 31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
