Bragg pulls off comeback win with five seconds left

Hunter Crook’s 50-yard pass to Dalton Moore with five seconds remaining gave Bragg Middle School’s eighth-grade football team a 20-18 heart-stopping win over Hueytown Thursday night.

“We got the ball back with 16 seconds left, and had already missed on two plays,” coach Larry White said. “They had a safety covering [Juan] Jackson, and Crook looked him of and the safety went with him, and left Dalton in single coverage.”

The Rockets took an early 6-0 lead on a 18-yard touchdown run by Jackson, but the Golden Gophers scored three straight touchdowns in the first half.

Jackson struck again just before halftime with a 55-yard scoring run.

“To come back like that was a great confidence-builder for our team,” Whit said.

Bragg is now 5-0, and is the last undefeated team in their league. They face Rudd this Thursday in Pinson.

The seventh-grade Rockets were shut out 30-0 by Hueytown.
