• The Gardendale Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor the second-annual community bonfire Thursday at 6 p.m. at Moncrief Park. See more details in our Wednesday edition.

• Gardendale based-Building Job Skills for Americans with Disabilities (BJS) will have a fund-raising benefit gala at United Cerebral Palsy, located at 101 Oslo Circle in Birmingham Monday at 6:30 p.m. The benefit will feature a silent art auction and food prepared by chefs Michael Brady and Jason Parkman. • Gardendale High School PTSA will host the annual Tom Smith Homecoming Golf Tournament Monday at Highland Park Golf Course in Birmingham. Entry fee is $100 per player and includes lunch. Proceeds benefit GHS. For more info, call Susan Rice at 281-8348.
