Pernie Motte Chappell

Pernie Motte Chappell, age 98, met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, September 19, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Chester Chappell; two daughters, Margie Lou Chappell, and Mary Jo Thrift; three sisters, Zuma Creel, Trixie Rouse Edwards, and Helen Gayton. She is survived by one granddaughter, Tina Burson (Lonnie) Southern; one great- grandson, Jason Burson; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Pernie was a lifelong resident of Warrior and was the oldest member of New Bethel Baptist Church. When she was no longer able to live alone, she was with her daughter in Tarrant, until spending the last 10 months at her “home”, Covenant Place, Gardendale. Pernie was a homemaker for the first part of her life, until later working long past retirement age at the Gardendale location of Yeilding’s, until the store closed. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 24, beginning at noon at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home Chapel with internment to follow at New Bethel Cemetery. Bro. Gary Creel will officiate. The visitation will be Thursday morning from 11 until noon. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Covenant Place for their loving attention given to Pernie and Lifecare Hospice for their assistance.
