Locust Fork 15, Corner 13: Yellow Jackets’ comeback effort falls short

The Corner Yellow Jackets and the Locust Fork Hornets locked wings in a defensive slugfest Friday night in Locust Fork. But the Hornets’ sting would prove more lethal as they topped Corner 15-13.

The teams shut each other out of the score board in the first two quarters of play. The Yellow Jackets were down 15-0 with only seconds remaiing in the third quarter when Andrew Huffman ran in a kickoff return from 87 yards out for the score. However, the point-after kick was no good.

Corner put six more on the board in the fourth quarter. After Locust Fork fumbled a kickoff, quarterback Zack Price connected with Aaron Cummings on a 35-yard pass to set up a scoring play. Price would later run it in from four yards out. The drive was followed by a successful point-after kick.

That would prove to be the last scoring drive for Corner.

Corner picked up 191 total yards on the night and 11 first downs.

Price was 15-for-31 on the night with 168 total passing yards. Receiver Nick Webb had four catches for 54 yards.

Corner will travel to Haleyville next week.
