Fultondale 26, Good Hope 2: Mixon scores two touchdowns

The Fultondale Wildcats traveled north to Cullman Friday night and easily defeated the Raiders of Good Hope, 26-2.
The win puts Fultondale’s record at an impressive 4-1 on the season.
The Wildcats defense shut down the Raiders for three consecutive quarters and managed to keep Good Hope from scoring a single touchdown the whole game.
Good Hope’s defense showed promise in the first quarter, but Fultondale’s Gary Willis found the end zone on a 1-yard run with a little more than two minutes remaining. The point-after kick was also good.
The Wildcats struck again in the second quarter with 4:31 left on the board when C.J. Mixon ran it in. However, the point-after attempt failed.
The Wildcats roared out of the gate at the start of the second quarter with a 51-yard kickoff return from Chris Hardaway to the Good Hope 18.
Fultondale scored twice in the third quarter. C.J. Mixon ran it in from seven yards out, though the point-after kick failed.
Chris Barber later found the end zone from two yards out with 3:07 left in the third quarter, followed by a successful point-after kick.
The Raiders’ only score — a safety — would occurr with 8:28 left in the fourth quarter when Willis was tackled in the end zone.
Fultondale topped Good Hope in just about every offensive category. Overall, the Wildcats had 296 total yards and 18 first downs.
Barber picked up 114 yards on 13 attempts and scored a touchdown. Mixon picked up 101 yards on 14 carries and Hardaway picked up 35 yards on five attempts.
Deandrea Marshall had one catch for 21 yards.
The Wildcats’ defense was also solid. Cortez Edison, Sherman Owens and Christian McCullough had eight tackles each. Edison and McCullough also had two assists each.
The Wildcats will take on Shades Mountain Christian next week.
