Lisa Thomas of Pinson and her husband Greg Thomas own and operate a produce truck in Morris at the corner of Morris-Majestic Road and First Avenue, which is across the city park from Morris City Hall.
• How long have you been in the produce business?
A little over a month. My husband was laid off from Jefferson County. We decided to do this because we need grocery money among other things.
• How did you decide to sell produce?
My stepfather sets up produce in Sumiton. I worked for him for about three years. He showed us the ropes.
• Are you out here every day?
All but Sunday, if it’s not raining. We’re here from 8:30 or 9:30 every morning, and we leave about 4 or 5, depending on how it’s going. We go to church on Sundays.
• Where do you go to church?
Hughes Memorial Baptist Church on Bradford Road. My daughter and I sing in the choir, and my husband drives the church van.
• What do you enjoy about selling produce?
I like being outdoors, and I like meeting people.
• Will you sell during the winter?
We’ll be here unless it’s so cold we can’t stand it. We want to be here as much as we can.
• What is the most popular thing you sell?
Tomatoes, cantaloupes and watermelon.
• How much are they?
Tomatoes are $3 a cup for red or green. A cup holds six tomatoes. Cantaloupes are $2 to $2.50, and watermelons are $2 to $6.
• Tell me about your family.
My husband and I have two kids, Brandon Tolbert, who is 21. He just got back from Iraq. Our daughter Amanda Thomas is 14. She goes to Mortimer Jordan High School.
• What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
We swim in the pool at home. We go to church. Every Friday night, we either go to my mom’s house to play Rook or they come to our house. We also like to go camping at Smith Lake when we can.
