People’s Baptist 32, Tabernacle Christian 18: Georgia 8-man champs snuff Torches

McDONOUGH, Ga. – Tabernacle Christian’s Torches were temporarily extinguished with a loss on the road Friday night.

The Torches took on the Knights of Peoples Baptist Academy, but came away with a 32-18 loss.

Tabernacle (1-1) got on the board first with a 27-yard run from Fred Goodgame, followed by an unsuccessful point-after attempt.

Peoples Baptist answered with a 12-yard touchdown run from Trevor Scarboro and a successful 2-point conversion.

With an 8-6 Knights lead entering the second quarter, the Torches turned up the heat with two scoring drives. Dylan Hargreaves ran it in from the five and later caught a 20-yard pass from Josh Wade.

People’s Baptist would score in the third quarter on a 29-yard run from Scarboro.

The Knights would go on to pick up two more TDs in the fourth quarter while shutting the Torches down. The Knights’ Trevor Ashley ran it in from 15 yards out and Scarboro found the end zone with a 3-yard run.

Goodgame collected 68 yards on 11 carries. On the receiving end, Hargreaves and Goodgame combined for 5 catches and 75 total yards. Wade was 8 for 11 in passing for 50 yards.
