Spectators will get to see almost 50 events this weekend at a horse show in Kimberly.

The North Jefferson Saddle Club, made up mainly of people who board horses at the Hitchin Post, is hosting a horse show Saturday at the Kimberly venue.

The show starts at 6 p.m., with the gate opening at 4 p.m. Entry fee is $3 per person, with no charge for children 6 and younger.

With 49 events planned, there will be something for people of all ages, according to Ramona Harris, part owner of the Hitchin Post. There will even be a free stick-horse race for children.

At the show, the audience can expect to see all types horses, including miniature horses, ponies, quarter-horses, Tennessee walking horses, and even mules and donkeys.

There is a $5 entry fee per class to participate in the horse show.

Besides halter class and riding class contests, there will be timed events like barrel racing, pole bending, a panty race and a rescue race.

In the panty race, participants ride a horse to the far end of the arena, where pairs of panties wait on top of barrels. The riders dismount, put on the underwear, and ride back across the arena.

The rescue race consists of a rider crossing the arena and picking up a buddy who is standing there waiting. The two ride back together across the finish line.

Payback in open classes (where there is a five-horse minimum) is 70 percent, with $250 worth of prize money added to some of the classes, according to Harris.

She said there will be ribbons awarded to all participants.

All shows hosted by the North Jefferson Saddle Club this year are approved by the American Paint Horse Association for paint alternative competition credits.
