Fultondale splits tri-match, Briarwood slams Gardendale

- Fultondale sophomore middle hitter Briana Griffin goes up for a kill during Thursday’s season-opening tri-match at home against Corner and Hale County. The Wildcats easily handled the undermanned Yellow Jackets in the first match, but were swept by Hale County in the nightcap.
Fultondale 2, Corner 0
Freshman outside hitter katrina Hubbard had five aces, and senior outside hitter Jordan Westmiller tallied five kills as host Fultondale swept an undermanned Corner squad 25-8, 25-10 in the first match of a tri-match on the first official day of play for the 2009 volleyball season.
Corner, who played only seven players, did not score a point on serve in the first game.
Junior middle hitter Karleena Unlap served eight straight points in the second game of the match.
Hale County 3, Fultondale 0
The Wildcats lost the nightcap of the tri-match in a Class 2A Area 7 contest.
Briarwood Christian 3, Gardendale 0
Emmy Dodson had 10 assists, four aces and four digs, but it wasn’t enough for the Rockets as they were swept 25-17, 25-12, 25-17 at Briarwood in the season opener for both teams.
Haley Hardman had three kills and four digs for Gardendale.
Julia Hoke had 11 kills and three aces for the Lions.
Tabernacle Christian 3,Trinity Christian 1
The Torches won their ACEA season opener 25-16, 22-25, 25-12, 25-17 at Oxford.
Blair Litwiller had 3 aces and 4 kills. Brianna Dooley added 15 digs for Tabernacle (1-0).
