Historical info needed

The Gardendale Historical Society is looking for historical information and old pictures of Gardendale. The society meets the third Saturday of every month, 10 a.m., at the Gardendale-Martha Moore Public Library and always welcomes new members. Call Patsy Duncan, 608-3375.



Free Tot Shots

The Jefferson County Department of Health will host free tot shot clinics the fourth Thursday of each month at Gardendale First Baptist Church in the Family Life Center, 3-5 p.m.

Memorial Fund

The Scott West Memorial Fund has been opened at Superior Bank in Mt. Olive to benefit West’s family.



Free Child Care

Founders Day

Aug. 22, 2-8 p.m. Founders Day will be held at Black Creek Park in Fultondale. No charge to attend.



75th Homecoming

Aug. 23, 10 a.m. – noon. New Georgia Baptist Church will be having its 75th anniversary homecoming. Special music by Steel City Quartet. The church is located at 5300 Decatur Highway in Birmingham.



Spaghetti Lunch

Aug. 28, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Walker Chapel United Methodist women’s group will host a spaghetti lunch at the church. Eat in or carry out. $6 per plate includes spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, dessert and drink. From Interstate 65, turn left onto Walker Chapel Road. Church is on the left.



Barbecue

Sept. 3-6 American Legion Post No. 255 in Fultondale will be smoking and selling barbecue. Prices are as follows: Butts, $25; slabs, $18; BBQ by the pound, $10; BBQ plate, $7; rib plate, $7.50; BBQ sandwich, $3.50; rib sandwich, $4; sides, $2. There will be BBQ sauce for sale.

Health Fair

Aug. 22, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Family Life Center’s health fair will feature various physicians will attend, as well as the Warrior Fire Department, representatives teaching about sexually-transmitted and other diseases, nutritionists and other health care representatives. Fireworks Show

Sept. 6, 8:30 p.m. The 2nd annual Labor Day Fireworks Show sponsored by Fuel-Z and Fireworks Unlimited will be behind Fuel-Z, off I-65 Exit 282.
