Starting next week, Kimberly will be a hopping joint for seniors every Tuesday night.
Cletus Hopkins and his five-member band will move its weekly senior citizens dance from Jack’s in Pinson to the Kimberly Community Center.
Cletus and the Old Timers had been playing at Jack’s for only five weeks when the crowd simply grew too large, topping 100 dancers on some nights.
Until about a month ago, there was a senior citizens dance at the Kimberly Community Center every Friday night.
However, the man who organized that weekly dance stepped down.
Cletus and the Old-Timers will likely help fill the void as they play their only brand of music every week: Country and western.
“I’m not saying I’m good, but the musicians are great,” said Hopkins, who sings and plays guitar for Cletus and the Old-Timers.
Kimberly Senior Center director Jody Newman played a key role in helping get the weekly dance moved to Kimberly.
Newman, who plays in two bands herself, said that Cletus and the Old-Timers is a good band that seniors will enjoy dancing to or just listening to.
Donations will be taken at the door to help cover the cost of renting the community center.
Hopkins said that participants are welcome to bring finger foods and drinks to share with the crowd.
Starting Tuesday, the dance will be held every Tuesday, 6-9 p.m.
