Gardendale teams advance in playoffs

As the Dizzy Dean youth baseball season winds down, Gardendale’s leagues still have teams in the playoffs, with a couple of age groups on a course that could bring them right back to their hometown.

The state championship tournaments for 7-year-old and 11-year-old teams will be held in Gardendale. Moncrief Park will host the sevens, while the Upward Sports Complex will be the site for the elevens.

Here’s the progress of each of Gardendale’s teams:

‰ 6-year-olds: The Maroon team won both their district and area, and will play in the state tournament in Jasper on the Fourth of July weekend.

‰ 7-year-olds: Both the Gray and Maroon teams play in the regional tournament this weekend in Pinson.

‰ 8-year-olds: The Maroon team won its district tournament. They, along with the Gray team, will play their area tournament in Hayden this weekend.

‰ 9-year-olds: Advanced out of their district into regional play this weekend.

‰ 10-year-olds: Already qualified for the state tournament in Albertville over the Fourth of July weekend.

‰ 11-year-olds: The Maroon team won their regional this past weekend. Both the Maroon and Gray teams advance to the state championship at Upward Park over the Fourth of July weekend.

‰ 12-year-olds: Already qualified for the state tournament, which is in Pinson over the holiday weekend.

In addition, the Corner and Fultondale leagues still have teams in contention.
