Gardendale

Teen returns home

A 16-year-old Gardendale girl reported missing over the weekend returned home Tuesday.

Police Chief Mike Walker said detectives were planning on interviewing Brittany Michelle Barker on her return.

Barker’s mother called the police station shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon to report her daughter missing. She was reportedly last seen on Saturday at 6 p.m. leaving her home on Chapel Ridge Drive

The department then issued an alert through “A Child is Missing,” a national program designed to locate missing juveniles.

The City of Fultondale had also investigated the disappearance of a juvenile female this week. However, a police official said Monday afternoon that the teen had been found safe.

Tarrant man charged in Fultondale shooting

A Tarrant man was arrested early Sunday after a shooting at a Fultondale sports bar.

Detective David Smith said Timothy Hunter Grant, 23, was arrested on felony assault charges between 2 and 3 a.m. at The Drop Zone, located in the 2400 block of Decatur Highway.

Grant allegedly shot another bar patron in the leg during what Smith called “a typical barroom fight.” The wounded man was reportedly treated and released from UAB Hospital.

Smith said the police department had received other calls to the establishment, but nothing weapons-related.

“We do have the shooter and we do have the gun,” Smith said. “Hopefully this will send a clear signal that this will not be tolerated.”
