A tax business in Warrior is being accused of “possible fraud” for not filing individuals’ taxes by the April 15 deadline.
CFS Tax Services reportedly did not file returns for at least three clients.
The alleged victims filed police reports for “possible fraud” on May 6 and May 20 with the Warrior Police Department after the Internal Revenue Service contacted them for not filing their taxes, according to Warrior Police Chief Ray Horn.
He said on Tuesday that another alleged victim had filed a third report.
Horn said it is unclear if the business has committed a crime. He said it is possible that the owner has been sick and unable to file her clients’ taxes.
“We don’t know if it will be fraud,” said Horn. “She just closed up and didn’t tell anybody. … it sounds like she just abandoned the shop.”
The police department has been unable to contact anyone associated with the business. Calls to CFS Tax Services are not answered and the voice mailbox is full.
There is no listing for the owner, Sally Wynn, in the phone book.
“All she’s got to do is get back in touch with these people. They just want their information,” Horn said. “Most of these people have used her for years.”
Horn said the clients affected have received extensions with the IRS.
